Thank you Mytharox and andromedaDiablo, your dialog has helped me to figure out the requirements for alliance and metropolis quests. I will likely devote some time on the weekend to making notes to make planning these achievements easier.
I was also interested in checking the achievement requirements but I can't figure out which file to look in. Also the .xml files open by default with Firefox, is there another program I could use that would make it easier to navigate the files, perhaps with some kind of search function? |

Just poking around again in Firefox, turns out it does have a search option. I see you recommend Wordpad, mayhap I'll try it.

Tbh all your info looks to me like when my husband explains what some things inside my car are supposed to do. I think the expression is "double Dutch".

Okay, I got the 5-minute quest thingy now, great job on that. I'll take the spam from my 3 allies for granted.
Now the only thing that I would like to change is the quests from the neutral powers, in a 11 hour game where I am connected to 6 neutral powers I only got 1 quest from Barnabas (that was also bugged). Can that also be found in one of the files? (I couldn't find it so far) |

@Henk
It's in the config/ai aiprofiles.xml. Every AI has a couple of timers, you could change them or remove them. If there aren't timers in the aiprofiles it will use the default ones in templates.xml instead. <StartTimeMin>2700000</StartTimeMin>
<StartTimeMax>3300000</StartTimeMax>
<CheckIntervallMin>2700000</CheckIntervallMin>
<CheckIntervallMax>3300000</CheckIntervallMax> This is the text to find and/or edit. Or I could post a file for you if you want one like all AI (including sultan, emir, richard?) at 5 min quest timers. |

I recommend notepad++ it's free, open source and it will show the file more clearly. http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/nl/site.htm |

Here I made a little start example on quests, so it's more clear for others not into xml files
* Mary d'Artois (File: cpp_01.xml) Achievement - The Martyr 5550041 The fleet (Alliance, War with other, Patrician Min/Max ) 5550060 The old wise woman (Alliance, Metropolis, Nobleman Min/Max) 5550093 Journey into the past (Alliance, Nobleman Min/Max) 5550106 Marie of (quest city) (Alliance, Nobleman Min/Max + Buildings for Warmachine, Cannon, Goldmine ) Achievement - Faith is my Path Needs: 5550128 Axis of good (Alliance, Metropolis, 1 Non Allied Player) (Disabled if you do quest 8050806 (All Allies) Actually a game winning condition, like you need to have all allies) ) 5550131 True riches (alliance, Metropolis, Buidings ImperialCathedral (Part0+1+2+3))(Disabled if you do quest 8050801 (Build Catherdral/Mosque winning condition) or 5750090 (Holy Duty, Lucius) ) 5550133 Holy war(Alliance, Metropolis, Nobleman, Maximal 2 troops) |

Resident is just a person living, like you need 80 for cider press. What it means in this case is a little unclear to me. Perhaps it means you need to be at the start of citizen level. (With just the first citizen starting buildings.)
|

I've looked up the quests in the second file for anyone interested.
As you can see in this one there are a couple of hard to get ones, like at most 6 ships owned or you may not have killed over 20 corsair ships. And that at Metropolis level. I usually have killed a lot more and certainly have over 6 ships by that time * Gavin Langton: Achievement - The Ladies Man 5650014 The Feast (Alliance, Nobleman, Butchershop) 5650046 The Tournament (Alliance, Nobleman, SilkWeavingMill) 5650050 The Memoirs (Alliance, Nobleman, Apiary) 5650070 Braggadocio (Alliance, Nobleman, Goldmine, 3 quests done, At least 2 warships owned.) Achievement - Extravagance out of Affluence 5650078 Something Big (Metropolis, Alliance, Nobleman, At most 20 corsair ships killed) 5650081 Insurance (Metropolis, Alliance, Nobleman, At most 6 ships owned) |

Just tried it out today. It's great, thanks for the tip. While poking around today, I found this one I thought was strange. Giovanni Di Mercante Economic Espionage <GUID>6150018</GUID> <Preconditions> <MinPlayerLevel>Patrician</MinPlayerLevel> <MaxPlayerLevel>Patrician</MaxPlayerLevel> <ResidentCount>0</ResidentCount> <TreatyState>AllianceTreaty</TreatyState> <NeededObjects> <Item> <Object>32024</Object> <Min>1</Min> </Item> Seems to suggest you should be no higher than Patrician but <Name>ButcherShop</Name> <GUID>32024</GUID> I thought Butcher Shop was a Noble building, although further up the page it says <BuildingLevel>Patrician</BuildingLevel> Also does anyone know what this means? <PuzzlePictureUnitCount>2</PuzzlePictureUnitCount> |
||||
|
It's probably a bugged quest, Patrician should be edited to Nobleman for it to work as intended. Butchershop is a Nobleman building now, maybe it used to be a patrician level and that is why they made the mistake.
The <PuzzlePictureUnitCount> is the number of people you need to find for a quest. It's easy to change and use, like make a mod to make find person quests just to find 1 so you don't need to search for hours to find that last juggler. I believe the find person quests are bugged. In the campaign when you need to find 5 spies, all 5 have a red circle on the mini-map when you hover over the quest. In the continuous game that is bugged and the red circle is only shown for the first. So a workaround, if you get tired of finding that last juggler, spy etc. is just to tweak that value. Another small mod: Fixed Disloyal Assistant Fixed Economic Espionage Tweaked Find person quests to just 1 person. Here: This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mytharox, |

Words can't describe how much I hate the "find so-and-so" quests. Whomever the designer/programmer was who came up with that idea and thought it would be fun and enjoyable to do over and over again should have his pay docked. And during the campaign, last mission, it was just ridiculous. Of course, your tip (I think it was yours) to add back the developer's pause to the keybinds has made these quests much more bearable, but still, I hate them. |
||||
|
Then this mod should make it a lot more enjoyable for you
As for the find person quests, perhaps when the devs fix the red circles to show above all 5 jugglers/dancers you need to find, in continuous mode, then a mod isn't really needed as much as it is currently. |
||||
|
Actually, because of the developer's pause, the more there are the easier it is, not harder. The instant I get message about this type of quest, I hit my spacebar. (I mapped the developer's pause to the spacebar for convenience.) Then if I go to the center of the red circle, I generally always find them all there in one big group before they had a chance to scatter. So my tentative plan was to take your idea and reverse it by significantly increasing the count, not decreasing it. |

I can probably edit it myself if I know which files to edit to change the quest interval (for Al Zahir for example), only thing I am wondering about is the time notation. 2700000 = ? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Henk-de-Vries, |

You also need to have the furriers workshop or the hunters' lodge for the "Furs furs furs" quest from Leif as far as I know.
Since those are nobleman buildings you need to be at the required nobleman level to build those. I got and completed that quest. |

Miracle is quite clear if you know what it means, ambassador = envoy. You must have less than 1000 envoys, have noblemen and be allied with Willem.
World Peace will be given when you are only allied with Leif, he will then ask you to ally with all players. Naturally you do need noblemen. So far I got all the emperor quests by just playing the game, I am missing 1 Sultan quest still and I think it's one ofthe same you're missing (Harmony)... I will look into that. I got tired of waiting for hours for Helena d'Artois to give me the 'Journey into the Past I' quest so what I did was look up the GUID and added that as a follow-up quest to some crappy quest she keeps spamming me with. You can add any quest to another quest and start the quest-chains like that, you could probably even add the last quest in the chain to any quest and still get the quest marked off. But I myself prefer to at least do the whole questline. You just have to replace the <FollowUpQuest /> with: <FollowUpQuest> <FollowUpQuests> <Item> <FollowUpQuest> <FollowUpQuestTime>30000</FollowUpQuestTime> </Item> </FollowUpQuests> </FollowUpQuest> This message has been edited. @alexia0071
Those quests can indeed take a long long time to get, I have a continuous game going without any other players where I just sit and wait for those neutral powers to give me a quest (in speedmode ofcourse). The thing with several of those quests is that they are at Patrician level so you have to make sure that your citizens don't advance, some require that you must have 4 warships for example and others require you to have at least 4 finished quests from that certain NPC before they will give that quest. I haven't found the code to change the quest interval of the neutral powers so far. |
||||
|
|
||||
|
Yes and yes.
Basically what I did was wait 'til the NPC gave me some quest, write down the name and then save the game. Quit the game, change the quest I wrote down to have a follow-up quest. Load the old game, finish the quest and then be presented with the quest you wanted to get. |
