Every AI has a starttime (min/max) and interval (min/max) that they have to wait before they give a roll for a possible quest.

For example Lucius has an interval of 45-60 minutes. If you have an alliance in the time he 'rolls' for a quest you can get one of the random ones he has to offer, or none at all. And the next 'roll' will be 45-60 minutes later.

The easier AI's have lower wait times, but as you know, for most you need an alliance to get the quests. So you just need to be in alliance the moment the AI rolls.

Also when you accept a quest, you increase the interval for all others. The durations are all in aiprofiles.xml and properties.xml if you are interested, not that hard to mod if you wanted.

Here some quick mods I slapped together as demo Smile
In this demo I've modded the normal AI opponents you can choose as opponents in the beginning.

Half Hour Quest Rolls:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MG46MF4U
Five Minutes Quest Rolls:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=929AZ2P6

Use it like other mods and move the 2 xml files of your choice to data\config\ai. It will give you more quest rolls, every half hour (instead of every hour like before) or even every 5 minutes, but only from AI opponents you have an alliance with, for if you really want a quest frenzy game Wink

You do have to start a new game for it to work, enjoy Wink

Funny how you have done the quests I didnt get yet and I got most of those you are waiting on.

I cant make myself play with Gavin and Cardinal and alike AIs, they always try to settle on my island and annoy me so much that I end wiping them off the map before I get to alliance :/

It's all in the quests.xml file if you are interested. Like the one you mentioned needs 1000 nobles and a treaty to get active.

                            <Preconditions>
                              <MinPlayerLevel>Nobleman</MinPlayerLevel>
                              <TreatyState>AllianceTreaty</TreatyState>
                              <PlayerCounter>
                                <Item>
                                  <Counter>Nobleman</Counter>
                                  <Max>1000</Max>
                                </Item>
                              </PlayerCounter>

Sure, the quick guide to finding a quest using the xml files is:

Open the directory questeditor. Open the file you need there (like cpp_07.xml for Giovanni di Mercante) the charactername is on the first page when yo open it with notepad.
                      <Sprecher>Giovanni di Mercante</Sprecher>

Then you search for a quest like 'Raw Nerves I' (one of his quests.) When you have it look for the text: <GUID> number here </GUID>

In this case the guid is number <GUID>6150062</GUID>. This is the unique quest number you need this to find the quest info.

Second phase is to open the folder questconfig and the file quest.xml, search the number 6150062.
There you find the quest and the prereq data, in this case:
                          <Preconditions>
                          <MinPlayerLevel>Nobleman</MinPlayerLevel>
                          <MaxPlayerLevel>Nobleman</MaxPlayerLevel>
                          <TreatyState>AllianceTreaty</TreatyState>
                          <PlayerCounter>
                            <Item>
                              <Counter>Warships</Counter>
                              <Min>2</Min>
                            </Item>
                          </PlayerCounter>
                          <NeededSolvedQuests>3</NeededSolvedQuests>
                        </Preconditions>

Meaning to get 'Raw Nerves I' you need:
Nobleman Level in your city.
An Alliance with Giovanni
2 Warschips
3 Quests done already

Here is the file you can find the folders in: (Simply extracted with the mod maker from the anno data files)

You're doing fine really, it's 1000 honour indeed.

<Preconditions>
                              <TreatyState>AllianceTreaty</TreatyState>
                              <CityStatusNeeded>Metropolis</CityStatusNeeded>
                              <PlayerCounter>
                                <Item>
                                  <Counter>Honour</Counter>
                                  <Max>1000</Max>
                                </Item>
                              </PlayerCounter>
                            </Preconditions>

So what you need is:
Alliance treaty
Metropolis
Below 1000 Honour

(And of course a lucky roll when the AI is rolling for your quest. If the AI has 75% to roll a quest, and 10 quests to choose from, the chance you get just the quest you wanted isn't that high.)

The objects are probably the ones in the assets.xml file, in the game directory. (I didn't include those in that other file I uploaded, but it's also found in the noria's mod e.g.)

Object 32026 is a wine press then.

                           <Name>Winepress</Name>
                          <GUID>32026</GUID>

It's in texteditor/cpp_neutralislands.xml, that one is in the files alright.
<Text>Joined forces I</Text>

As for the wine press, I don't know the games code or way of checking, but if I'd have to guess I'd think it would just check if you build one not where it's located.

Most likely it's:
Minimally Nobleman level
Alliance made
Metropolis build
Maximum of 5000 residents over all islands. (So no more then 5000 total residents.)

I suppose if you have over 5k residents, you would need to start demolishing things until you get under the amount. You would need to keep above 3500 Nobles to keep your metropolis status too.

Tricky quest which one is this?

I didnt realize those quests ask for silly special conditions and on top of that one has to be lucky with random roll.
So one is supposed to dig through game files and fix their game according to some idiotic conditions and pray to Game Gods for luck? Thanks but no thanks, too much trouble for nothing really.

It means you should be at patrician level and you shouldn't be (or have been) higher. Going back from noble to patrician doesn't count.

@AndromedaDiablo
For both quests you had the wrong number (1 to much)
For Support from Faith, it's not 6250066 but 6250065. So you need:
                             <Preconditions>
                              <MinPlayerLevel>Nobleman</MinPlayerLevel>

                            </Preconditions>

                          <MinPlayerLevel>Patrician</MinPlayerLevel>

Although the quests are a pain when you try to hunt for one specific one and when you have no clue where to look then it's really annoying indeed. It's like many (hidden/not hidden) achievements hard to get, I mean who wants to go to press the 'get cart' button 250 times in a game Wink Or build 750 armies or loose 250 or some? Or make 300 screen shots.

But once you know what the quest needs/wants and you are about to start a new game. It's more or less the same as any scenario or achievement, try and get the to the needed things and stay there a while.

A computer player usually has a very low chance to give the same extended quest twice in a game. So once you have all the needed requirements and you stay on that level a while, the quest usually pops after a bit. A bit like the diplomat level where you have to wait for the sultan to act.

Personally I think it's fun to when I start a new game I can have some sort of goal to go for. I think without the many achievements to hunt for I would go bored a lot faster.

But getting 250 carts is at least clear, one can do that in time while actually playing, if you remember to do it. You dont have to dig through game files.
I want to play the game not read confusing boring quests data in files, but if I dont do that obviously I could wait forever to get certain quest its that random.
I know when I build army nr 499 that I have 251 to go, but what is my chance to get all the prereqs for quest I want without setting the game specifically for that? 1 in 10 mil? I could play until I become Grandma (ok that could be quite soon Razz ) and never get that one quest I want.

I like to have goals when I start a new game too, and yes achievements are a way. The quests ones are just too random for someone that is not crazy about reading and deciphering the game files... me for example. Unclear editor files give me headache Frown

Usually if the game is fun enough, eventually you find the walkthroughs for achievements on a wiki, forums and websites. Like this thread is slowly filling with a couple of quest solutions.

Otherwise you can always ask if you plan to hunt for a specific quest, if I am still around playing I don't mind finding out what makes that quest tick.

But like you said, without the knowledge of what is needed for the quest, for some (like that 5000 max population above) they are nearly impossible to get. It's really really weird that they are in there. If there was a little box 'hint' next to the achievement where you could read about what you need for it to pop, that would have made it a heck of a lot more clear Wink

A lot of achievements were 'guessing' the right name for the ship or city. Or playing at a 'certain' time. Those were also nearly impossible to get or guess without a forum to help out. (I didn't like those much myself as I like to 'work' for an achievement, not just guess or read up on a forum what I have to type there.)

Yes, exactly how I feel - I like to "work hard" in my games, not guess or rely on luck. Heck, I never thought I would say that since "work" and "games" in the same context is something I utterly despise otherwise but I think you get my point Smile

I am not hunting for any specific quest right now, I am still "testing" different kind of playstyles, AIs and such. Besides however I do have a goal when I start new game, I tend to change my goals in zig-zag path if I feel like it. Good side of the games, cant do that much irl.
Thanks for the help offer though, I might bother you some day, if you are still around playing that is Smile
I start to miss my MMORPGs crowd a bit too, but 1404. is still good enough to fill a break, not bored with it yet.
